WALT: Write a prediction

PT3  no.3 1997

Author:by Maggie Lillieby

I think this story is about a boy called Glenn who signs up for a  school challenge for all mountain bikers, which is also timed by a stopwatch. Glenn signs up for the race and saw that Simon Foster his enemy had entered as well. On the day he was super nervous. Glenn was put in the first race with Simon Foster. Halfway through the  track there were lots of big hills. After Glenn got tired and saw Simon ahead Glenn raged with fury and pedals as fast as possible but the track went downhill and was filled with potholes “ah!” Glen screamed, after he fell of his bike and fell face down in mud.

Budy coment: We think we used lots of adjectives and paragraphs. We think we need to use details.

W.A.L.T write persuasive writing

TV is a good invention

We believe TV is a good invention.  It is educational, entertaining and you  find out about different cultures.

Our first main reason is that some shows on the TV can be educational.  For Example little einsteins, this is very educational because it teaches you about information all around the world.

Our second reason is television is entertaining .  Television keeps everyone  entertained because many shows are humorous and interesting.  For example : Spongebob, The simpsons, Tom and Jerry,  The thunderbirds,  Doctor who and Curios George are very entertaining.

Our third reason is about different cultures.  Some TV channels can teach you about different countries and cultures around the world
Eg: Survivor, Travel shows, Maori Television and a lot more.

After all I think television is a great invention. So go and buy a TV now!
Group comment : We think we explained very well and used forceful language .I think we need to use adjectives.

Persuasive writing by Nidheesh and Ameena

It is Better to be a Kid than an Adult

I strongly believe that it is better to be a kid than an adult!  Children don’t have to worry about money, you don’t have to work and you have more fun!  Why would you want to be a boring adult when the life of a kid is SO great!

My first reason is that children don’t have to worry about money because parents pay for everything.  Eg: bills for electricity, the internet and water.  They also have to buy food, clothes, pay for petrol, a car, try to buy a house or pay rent and for holidays.  How horrible!  Parents must get so stressed out from having so many responsibilities.  They would have to work so hard and be so organised to make sure that everything is paid for.  Meanwhile. Children simply get to enjoy life and not worry about such important things.

Secondly, children don’t have to go to work.    Adults may have to type on computers all day long at work.  This would be SO tiring.  Their eyes would get sore from staring at a screen all day.  They may have to work at night.  When everyone else is sleeping, they are working hard to earn money.  Then they have to sleep during the day while everyone else is having fun and living their lives.  Adults may have a job that they don’t like!  But they don’t have any option, if they want money, they have to do it.  Parents who go to work only get four weeks holiday a year.  Whereas children who go to school get 12 weeks holiday a year.  Some adults work over 40 hours a week and become exhausted!  Children have a whole 12 weeks holiday a year to relax, rest, play and sleep (if they want to).

Finally, children have way more fun than adults.  Children get to have sleepovers and they get to go to friend's birthday parties.  Kids get to play a lot and they go to swimming pools.  Whereas adults have to  clean, cook, go to Countdown to buy food for the family and do boring paperwork.  What a TERRIBLE life!  Being a child is full of so much joy.  Why would you want to grow up?

In conclusion, we believe that being a child is way better than being an adult.  Children have way more fun and freedom, they don’t have to work and they don’t have to worry about money.  Being an adult is a nightmare.

My evaluation of my writing:
I think I used forceful language, paragraphs and detail.
I think I need to work on using adjectives.

Describing myself and where I come from

I am writing a description of where I come from.  I will be describing my
ethnicity, when my family emigrated to NZ and why and my family’s language
and religion.
My family is from Sri Lanka and the language my family speaks is Tamil.
My family is from Sri Lanka and my family emigrated to New Zealand on
the 9th of February 2016 to have a different lifestyle.  I celebrate a special
festival called Diwali and it is very important to me because it is all about
my family background and my family heritage.  My mum speaks in Tamil
because my grandmother and my grandfather live in Sri Lanka.  My whole
family was born in Sri Lanka. My Taonga is my whole family.

Every four years, my family goes to Sri Lanka to meet my friends and my grandparents.  In Sri Lanka, I have four huge houses in different cities.
My uncle emigrated to NZ then he went to Australia.  At New years,
my grandfather takes me to special places.

In the future I want to be a pilot and take my family to different places.
